In my 'Racist' series of paintings, I ask the question: when offered help, will we accept it if it comes packaged in the 'wrong' cultural wrappings? Are we likely to accept help only when it comes from within our own culture? What happens when the divide we must cross ocurs within a religious context?

Jess, I think that's a GREAT idea! Juxtapose the turbaned man and veiled woman, which combines the racism with the sexism. I'll start on it after I finish a few other things. Thanks so much for sharing.

I have an idea for your Racist series. I work part-time with Arab-Americans and have met some wonderful Palestinian people during my trip to Holy Land. Having known ordinary Arabs and Palestinians, I have concluded that they are just like us, with the same daily concerns about making a living, leading a peaceful life with family, neighbors and co-workers. They only have the unfortunate connection with the terrorists and the suicide bombers and leaders who prefer war over peace, and they suffer for it. When I see the beautiful, lively and intelligent children, I wonder what their future would be. So how about depicting a bearded man in a turban or a veiled woman in your next Racist painting?
